You might think that the copper weather vane is nothing more than a decorative thing that some people have at their homes, but it is really much more than that. Also, many people are not aware that there are many different types of weather vanes out there. When they finally discover it, they are unsure as to what they should be looking for as they really do not understand the differences that are out there.

Now, you might think that the copper weathervanes are something that are new in creation, but they are far from that. In fact, you might just find yourself a little surprised at how old the concept of these simple things are, as the first records of them go all the way back to Athens in 48 B.C. There are even accounts of Viking weather vanes that went back to the beginning of the 9th century.

So just what have the weather vanes been used for? Basically, the copper weather vane is nothing more than a very simple tool to predict weather. Those who were rich and those who were poor would have the weather vanes placed on the highest peak of their home.

The first copper weather vane had adorned heads of men and tails of fish. However, today, the most common is that of the rooster and there is good reason for this. During the 8th century, the pope had decided that all of the churches should have a rooster on the roof in order to help remind everyone of the betrayal Peter put out against Christ. While the rooster started out in a symbolic nature, it became a tradition that is still carried out today.

As you can see, there is a lot of history behind the copper weathervanes and it is a history that everyone should remember. Now, as far as purchasing a copper weather vane for your own home, you are going to want to make sure that you are getting something that suits your home and your family style the best. This way, you will be happy with your purchase and you will not feel as though you have to climb up on to the roof every year to change out the copper weather vane that you purchase.

Now that you know a little more about the copper weathervanes, you will find that you are ready to make your purchase. While shopping for one for your own home, think of those you know that do not have one. Once you start taking a look around at all of your options, you are going to see just how nice these would be for gifts.
